Program
Participants arrange their own flights and transport to the hotel in Dublin. In order to participate in today’s City Tour, your arrival at the hotel should be before 12:00 pm
Leaving the hotel at 13:30 pm we’ll start our Dublin city tour which includes sights such as the General Post Office, O'Connell Street and the Custom House, Trinity College and the Parliament Building. Visit the Chester Beatty Collection with exhibits such as Egyptian papyrus texts, beautifully illuminated copies of the Qur'an and the Bible. In the late afternoon visit St Patrick's Cathedral, built in honor of Ireland's patron saint. Its magnificent interior is adorned with funerary monuments such as that of the Boyle family and the tomb of Dean Jonathan Swift. Overnight at a hotel in Dublin. If time allows, we will make sure to head out to one of the many local pubs for some live music and a pint of Guinness.
We will leave Dublin and head south to Huntington Castle which dates back to 1625. A member of the family will tell us the history of the castle and show us the living and state rooms as well as the temple of the Goddess in the basement. Afterwards we will be invited to a good cup of tea and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam.
We continue to the medieval town of Kilkenny, where we will visit Kilkenny Castle, built in 1391 as the family seat of the Ormond family.
Overnight at a Hotel in Kilkenny.
Drive to Rock of Cashel, one of the most impressive sights in Ireland. High on a plateau of limestone sit the relicts of an old cathedral and a rounded tower. We continue to the southwest of Ireland, and drive along the Ring of Kerry, a 179 km long panoramic coastal road. With breathtaking views of the Black Valley and the three lakes of Killarney surrounded by mountains, this place offers spectacular views for unforgettable pictures. Overnight at a Hotel in County Kerry. Killarney has a bustling night life and a short 20 minute walk takes us downtown to one of the many pubs where we can listen to some celtic music and mingle with the locals.
This morning our program includes a visit to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Around 1270 Thomas de Clare built this stone castle, which was destroyed during the Irish-Norman conflicts in 1318 and renovated in 1950. We will then pay a visit to the Burren Smokehouse, where salmon is still smoked the traditional way. We will of course be able to taste their delicious products. The day ends with a stop at the Cliffs of Moher. These most famous cliffs of Ireland stretch over 5 kilometers and reach a height of 215 meters. Overnight at a Hotel in County Clare
On our way back to Dublin we will stop at the ruins of Clonmacnoise along the River Shannon. The site, which originated in the 6th century, is famous for its enormous Celtic crosses. Afterwards we will head to one of the many whiskey distilleries here in Ireland. We get a look behind the scenes and learn how the "Uisce Beatha" - the water of life - is distilled. A tasting of said whiskey is not to be missed afterwards. Overnight at a Hotel in County Kildare.
It`s time to say goodbye to the green island. In the morning, we will visit the cozy fishing village of Howth, which lies sheltered at the foot of a huge rocky peninsula. With a little luck, we can watch seals along the shoreline. Depart to Airport at own accord.
(*visit to Howth depending on your flight departure time)
